The Black Opera: Symphoniæ Mysteriorum in Laudem Tenebrarum is the third studio album by Italian symphonic black metal band Opera IX, released in 2000 through Avantgarde Music. In this album, Opera IX drops some of their doom metal influences, heading to a more gothic-influenced instrumentation. This would also be the last album by Opera IX to feature Cadaveria on vocals and Flegias/Marcello Santos on drums; they would leave the band in the following year.
Genres: Symphonic Black Metal, Gothic Metal Members: Cadaveria, Ossian, Vlad, Flegias, Lunaris.
Opera IX's finest album, according to some, doesn't fail to impress, but Bauhaus won't be very happy. Women in music have no place. Women are supposed to be at home, making lunch for their husbands, look nice by his husband's side, enjoy the fornication act as if it were something marvelous and comforting, not talk and most importantly, break the little hearts of poor men whose only purpose in life is happiness by the side of a companion. That is the place of a female in actual society. Most importantly, I'd say, is the role of women in metal
Opera IX, who hails from some unidentified county locale between Milan and Turin, made a name for themselves in the '90s as one of southern Europe's upcoming metal groups. On this, their third full-length and first concept LP, they deliver the album that many thought they could make - a brutal, epic record whose sound ranges from black to classic heavy metal. As with other Opera IX albums, the hook is the voice of Cadaveria, their female lead singer. The Black Opera Symphoniae Mysteriorum in Lauden Tenebrarum - a heavy mouthful, but then again, it is a concept album. Cadaveria explains, "Lyrically this album is a magic and ritualistic journey into the sects of occultism described as an imaginary walk done by a spiritual warrior. Over the course of six songs, the warrior, led by Shaytan, the bringer of light, journeys toward supreme knowledge.
