Todd Rundgren's Utopia is the debut album by the American band Todd Rundgren's Utopia. Rundgren (who was primarily a pop musician at the time) had decided to delve into progressive rock. Putting together several musicians, including three keyboardists, the album covers a variety of styles including funk, jazz, classical and even avant-garde music.

One similarly shelved recording that attracts far less attention than the aforementioned ones is Utopia's Disco Jets. Recorded back in the mid-'70s (some fans assume it was 1976, but in interviews, Todd Rundgren admits he's unsure of the exact year), the album seems to be a bridge of sorts between Utopia's earlier prog rock direction and their forthcoming more "streamlined" direction.

Todd Rundgren's Utopia is a music studio album recording by UTOPIA (Eclectic Prog/Progressive Rock) released in 1974 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. Headed by pop ikon Todd Rundgren, this album's birth was written on the wall if one listens to the 1st side of his 'A Wizard, A True Star' album (1973) and the strangest parts of the 'Todd' album (1974). Rundgren's psilocybin intake of the era just had to lead to what is one of the ultimate progressive rock albums of all time.

Though this show was officially released by Shout Factory a couple of years ago, this is one of those rare cases where the bootleg is actually better than the official release, for a couple of reasons: The editing on this is slightly better on this (brighter sound and the songs are unedited, while the shout factory release has a lot of awkward cuts and fades during or after songs), and while it doesn't include the encore, it does contain the full Mr. Triscuits (with "Something's Coming"). I understand if you'd rather go for the official release, but in general, I felt this boot trumped the official product by just a whisker. It's a killer performance, but one was done slightly better.
