Nottingham guitarist Chris Summerlin, aka Last Of The Real Hardmen, dresses up his latest release in the shroud of a Black Metal cover (black design printed on an all black sleeve with a solid black disc to match). But Darkness proves to be a somewhat deceptive title. Instead of the expected blast of six-stringed doom and gloom, Summerlin allows the occasional shaft of white light to illuminate his playing . CD album on Low Point Recordings (LP010). 13 tracks of improvised, treated electric guitar recorded live to tape. Limited to 100 numbered copies. Slide guitar, organ, and the odd field recordings darken the mood and round out the mix with thick dashes of DIY ingenuity. If you’re at all familiar with the work of the other artists listed above, this is not a record that will present you with a lot of challenges. You won’t get shoved listening; the experiments may sound more like astute exercises. But it will nudge you, maybe just a little bit, just enough that you can’t be completely at rest as a listener/reader.
Beware of Darkness is the second studio album by American Progressive rock band Spock's Beard, released in 1996. The album was the band's first release following the addition of keyboardist Ryo Okumoto to the group. The album was named after the song of the same name, originally written and performed by George Harrison. The album features several short songs, in contrast to their debut album The Light which consisted of just four lengthy tracks.
The Hardmen selects 36 of the hardest men (and women) from cycling and explains why he (or she) deserves the title; actually it is 35, plus the entire Mapei team of the 1990s. However, rather than try to cover everything he (or she, or it) achieved, the Velominati limit themselves to just that one defining moment when these 'cycling gods' implemented Rule better than anyone else – except in the case of Eddy Merckx and Sean Kelly, when they had to allow two such moments.
