Steve Coleman and the musicians that he works with create the most original and exciting music I ha. .e heard in the past thirty years. I don’t know of any classical composers who have gone any further into the development of music. When I listen to either Five Elements or The Councl of Balance I am mesmerized. Even on repeated listenings this question keeps recurring in my mind: How do they do that? Charlie Parker and his most esteemed colleagues whipped up the last big wave in music.
