Luke Vibert hasn’t updated the way he makes music in years. I don’t know how I could make, he told me a couple of years ago. I’ve just got the same old shit I’ve had for years, plodding away at sequencing samples, not really knowing how the fuck else you can do it. Growing up in Cornwall, Vibert dropped out of school in December 1990 ( just before they kicked me out ) and got a job at a local record store. In the early 1980s, Vibert and a friend were introduced to a compilation of electro tracks from the English label Street Sounds by an older kid who had moved down from London. After that we were determined to become hip-hop kids, he enthused. We tried dancing but failed and so got more into the music. Over the next decade Vibert would continue to indulge his love of hip-hop alongside flirtations with indie rock, the odd pop gem from Prince, and soon enough dance music.
A2: Luke Vibert "Jungle Hitler". Luke has been a mate for a long time now, we first met when he played at one of our tube station bashes in the early 2000s. It was his track "I Love Acid" that I named my club night and label series after, and he's gigged at more of my parties over the last decade probably than anyone except me or Placid. This was a digital-only track from a few years back that really deserved to be pressed on vinyl.
Stop gap by Luke Vibert. Stuph by Luke Vibert on I Love Acid. Synthax by Luke Vibert on Warp Records. Shanghai label SVBKVLT is releasing a new compilation called Cache 01, and this inspired ed Tzusing's martial drumming, barked vocals and weighty synth and bass work-is a major highlight.
Vibert selected two volumes of library music, Nuggets: Luke Vibert's Selection (2001) and Luke Vibert's Further Nuggets (2002), for the Lo label. The compilations seemingly informed the synthesis of '70s avant electronics, electro, and acid heard on YosepH (Warp, 2003). A third Nuggets compilation was released on Lo in 2013. Armed once more with the TB-303, he recorded Ridmik. The following year saw the release of the mischievous Vibert album Bizarster and Kerrier District 4 (his first full-length under that name in nine years). Two contributions to the I Love Acid series preceded Luke Vibert Presents UK Garave, Vol. 1, an homage to the heydays of . garage and rave that arrived in 2017.
