Black Sabbath deliver the goods and shows the world that great metal can still be made by the genre's founders, almost 45 years later. Looks like the wait was worth it. WARDLESS: No Bill Ward, no problem, musically
13 is the 19th and final studio album by English rock band Black Sabbath. The album was released on 10 June 2013 in Europe and 11 June 2013 in North America, via Vertigo Records and Republic Records in the United States, and via Vertigo Records worldwide.
Black Sabbath return with their own special brand of heavy doom metal that at once hearkens back to the old days while at the same time bringing something new into the hallowed archives of Black Sabbath. Overall conclusion is that the album kicks ass and proves that Black Sabbath still lives. Geezer owns the bass and, of course, Tony Iommi's titanic riffs give the biggest middle finger to lymphoma ever given in the metal scene. Oddly enough, Ozzy's melodies are actually singable and manageable in their live shows, though sometimes, due to this album being in e-flat, a la The Devil You Know, his vocals sound a bit like those from Down to Earth.

The Rick Rubin-produced 13, featuring Rage Against the Machine/Audioslave drummer Brad Wilk, is the first Black Sabbath album to involve more than two original members since 1983's Ozzy-less Born Again. That it isn't an out-of-touch embarrassment is a surprise. That it's cohesive, engaging, and even fun is a near-shock. The current Black Sabbath reunion has been star-crossed almost from the start. Original members Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward staged a splashy press conference in November 2011 to announce a tour and a Rick Rubin-produced album, but the.
With such a fabled discography preceding '13,' both with Black Sabbath and his solo career, Ozzy's claim is not one to be taken lightly, and although '13' may not be the greatest album to ever be attributed to Ozzy's name, the disc is a definite success for Black Sabbath. The build up to '13' made it one of the most anticipated metal albums of the 21st century. Released 19 months after the original Sabbath lineup announced their reunion, the album almost didn't happen at all. The departure of drummer Bill Ward and cancer diagnosis of guitarist Tony.
Here's the rundown on '13,' Ozzy Osbourne's first full-length album with Black Sabbath in 35 years: It's not embarrassing in the least. In fact, it's pretty darn good and at times it's great. It's unfair to ask, and highly unlikely, that '13' will ever achieve any kind of equal footing alongside the group's masterful six first albums. It's also wonderful to hear him together with guitarist Tony Iommi again - the re-ignition of their chemistry is obvious from the very start of the album. You miss original drummer Bill Ward's swing, sure. Some of the lyrics (such as the pointless paradoxes "Is this the end of the beginning, Or the beginning of the end?" or "I don't want to live forever, But I don't want to die") are groan-worthy.
