Pick Up The Pieces is especially noticeable. a lot of the songs I wasn't familiar with, so i couldn't tell if they were original or not, but the songs I was familiar with were remakes. 2 people found this helpful. I love Average White Band's song, "Pick Up the Pieces," but discovered the rest of the 2 CD collection was a bit too dated. If you like 70s music, perhaps you'll enjoy the entire collection.

For the better part of the last twenty-eight years, the Average White Band has performed sold-out shows around the world, confirming the timeless appeal of their brand of funky soul. Formed in 1972, their roots may have been Scottish, but the collective heart of the band belonged to the soulful sounds coming from Memphis, Detroit, and Philadelphia in the 60's. AWB was formed in 1971 by Alan Gorrie and Malcolm "Molly" Duncan, with Onnie McIntyre, Hamish Stuart, Roger Ball and Robbie McIntosh joining them in the original line-up.

The Average White Band (also AWB) are a Scottish funk and R&B band that had a series of soul and disco hits between 1974 and 1980. They are best known for their million-selling instrumental track "Pick Up the Pieces", and their albums AWB and Cut the Cake

It is essentially an instrumental, apart from the song's title being shouted at several points in the song. He also said about the shouts of "Pick up the pieces": "It's about picking yourself up when things aren't going well. We'd spent a lot of time making no money whatsoever, so it felt very relevant. The song is an extended long version (18:06) on the live Person To Person album (1976) and (21:40) on the various artists album The Atlantic Family Live at Montreux (1977). The tenor saxophone solo on the Montreux version is by noted jazz instrumentalist Michael Brecker. The solo on the original release is by Molly Duncan.
