All the Young Dudes is the fifth studio album by Mott the Hoople, released in 1972. It was their initial album for the CBS Records label (Columbia Records in North America), after three years with Island Records in the UK and Atlantic Records in North America. All the Young Dudes was a turning point for the then-struggling British band. Mott the Hoople were about to break up when David Bowie stepped in and gave them the song "All the Young Dudes".
Lo and behold, it did, which is as much a testament to Bowie's popularity as it is to his studio skill
All The Young Dudes (Mott The Hoople cover). Brit Pop. All the Young Dudes (Mott the Hoople Spite Tribute Mix). Red Hot Chili Peppers. All The Young Dudes (Mott The Hoople cover - John solo). One Of The Boys (Album Version). All The Young Dudes 78. 3:58.
In a certain respect, Mott the Hoople's biggest hit (and only contribution to American classic rock playlists) fits right in: "All the Young Dudes" is upfront with its sexual desire and horny, twenty-something lust. There is one catch: It's also a celebration of the glam's gender-bending aesthetic. At the time of its release, Mott the Hoople were wallowing in obscurity despite releasing four albums of high-powered boogie. If the whole album stuck to that kind of meat-and-potatoes brilliance, the band could have been sitting on a masterpiece, but the songs on which they depart from the basics aren't nearly as compelling.
Momma's Little Jewel 4:27. All the Young Dudes 4:23. One of the Boys 6:44. Ready For Love/After Lights 6:45.
All the Young Dudes" is a song written by David Bowie, originally recorded and released as a single by Mott the Hoople in 1972 and again as "Mott The Hoople Live" version in 1974.
Mott The Hoople released four albums before All The Young Dudes and their near demise. When this song was released, they quickly found a following in the UK and scored five more Top 40 hits before breaking up in 1974, with guitarist Mick Ralphs moving on to form Bad Company. This was Mott The Hoople's only US Top 40 hit and their biggest hit in England. It is the only Mott The Hoople song many people have heard, but the band has a large following of fans who think they have a number of great songs, but were never appreciated.
