Dresdner Kreuzchor in 2012. The repertoire of the choir includes compositions from the early Baroque (Heinrich Schütz, Johann Sebastian Bach), the early 19th century and modern work. They concluded a program of motets from the Renaissance to Bach, Brahms and Bruckner with words about peace, O Herr, mache mich zum Werkzeug deines Friedens (after the Prayer of Saint Francis), in the presence of the composer Kurt Hessenberg. Renowned opera houses like the Semperoper in Dresden, the Komische Oper Berlin and the Deutsche Oper Berlin have engaged members of the Dresdner Kreuzchor as soloists, for example as the three boys in The Magic Flute or as the shepherd-boy in Tosca.

MUSICA DIVINA Works by: Schutz, Scheine, Bach, Draeseke, Bruckner etc. Dresdner Kreuzchor Roderich Kreile. The Dresdner Kreuzchor must be Germany's equivalent of the more celebrated Wiener Sangerknaben and I would stick my neck out and declare a preference for the boys from Dresden. This well filled CD contains a host of beautiful music from the 16th century Schutz onto the relatively modern Reger and all is handled with a ruthless efficiency so typical of Germanic choral tradition. However one must not expect any lack of interpretative prowess as the choir's director eases the boys into some highly characterful singing

In fact, though, the album is made up of traditional performances of traditional repertoire: German Romantic and post-Romantic motets by Brahms, Reger, and Bruckner, specifically pieces in which the influence of Bach and Buxtehude is especially evident. The sole exception is a performance (as an encore) of Brahms' Lullaby in a Swingle Singers-style arrangement that includes instrumental sounds produced vocally. The recording is taken from a 2011 concert tour of France.

MENDELSSOHN: Mitten wir im Leben sind op 23. REGER: Mutter! Ach in meinem Herzen. BRUCKNER: Virga Jesse in E minor WAB 52. REGER: Unser Lieben Frauen Traum. BRUCKNER: Ave Maria in F major WAB 6. BRAHMS: Herzlich tut mich verlangen. MENDELSSOHN: Ave Maria op 23 No 2. HERSANT: Vêpres de la Vierge.

Musica Sacra, the longest continuously performing professional chorus in New York City, enriches this season with two concerts: one in the fall focusing on the music of Bach, Brahms and more; and in the spring, a concert contrasting Franco-Flemish ancient works with those of contemporary American composers. Both performances will be enlivened by pre-concert recitals by the Concert Chorus of the Newark Boys Chorus School.
