George Fenton has been Ken Loach’s composer through almost a dozen films now, from Land and Freedom and My Name is Joe, to Carla’s Song and The Navigators. Usually, their collaborations have been low-key, with Fenton’s music playing a much smaller role than it does in other films. The Wind that Shakes the Barley is more of the same – a small, intimate orchestral score, albeit one with much more tension and a little more action than one would expect of a Ken Loach film . The score for The Wind that Shakes the Barley was never released commercially, but Fenton did release a promo CD on his own record label, Debonair, in late 2007.
The film won the Palme d'Or at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival. music composed and conducted by GEORGE FENTON cd produced by and layout by GODWIN BORG.
Title: The Wind that Shakes the Barley (2006).
The Wind That Shakes the Barley. The Wind That Shakes the Barley" is an Irish ballad written by Robert Dwyer Joyce (1836–1883), a Limerick-born poet and professor of English literature. The song is written from the perspective of a doomed young Wexford rebel who is about to sacrifice his relationship with his loved one and plunge into the cauldron of violence associated with the 1798 rebellion in Ireland.
Canadian singer/harpist Loreena McKennitt returns to her roots on The Wind That Shakes the Barley, making an album more in the traditional style of her 25-year-old debut, Elemental, than the more adult alternative hybrid efforts that have been more typical of her work since.

NotesKronos Records proudlly presents our first collaboration with multiple award winning composer GEORGE FENTON : THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY. George Fenton provides a highly dramatical and beautiful score, rich in suspence and action cues for this 2006 Irish war drama film, craftily managing to keep the score from being invasive. The film was directed by Ken Loach and set during the Irish War of Independence and the Irish Civil War. The film won the Palme d'Or at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival.
