Back Door Man" is a blues song written by Willie Dixon and recorded by Howlin' Wolf in 1960. It was released in 1961 by Chess Records as the B-side to Wolf's "Wang Dang Doodle" (catalog no. 1777). The song is considered a classic of Chicago blues. In Southern culture, the phrase "back-door man" refers to a man having an affair with a married woman, using the back door as an exit before the husband comes home

Back Door is the eponymously titled debut studio album of Back Door, released independently in 1972 by Blakey Records. It received wider distribution when it was adopted by Warner Bros. It introduced the group's virtuoso approach to jazz, funk, soul, blues and hard rock music. In 2005, the album was listed on JazzTimes' top fifty albums released between 1970 and 2005. In 2014 it was re-released on CD, compiled with 8th Street Nites and Another Fine Mess, by BGO Records.

Back Door Man’s apotheosis came seven years later as The Doors – a hot, dark and dangerous LA club band – were preparing their debut album. By their cover versions ye shall know them: Back Door Man was one of two non-originals on the album, the other being Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill’s Alabama Song (aka Whisky Bar, from The Threepenny Opera). In performance, the band would often medley those two songs together, telegraphing their intention to fuse Brecht/Weill and Dixon/Wolf into a single entity.
