In 2010, the Oak Ridge Boys released an album titled The Boys Are Back, which teamed them with Dave Cobb for the first time. One of the group’s most eclectic albums ever (as evidenced by their unlikely cover of The White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army ), working with Cobb re-energized the country veterans in a way similar to how Rick Rubin breathed new life into the career of Johnny Cash in the '90s. When the quartet was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in the fall of 2015, they wanted to do something special creatively to celebrate that milestone. In other words, you might hear a note out of place at times on the record. Obviously, Allen stresses that wasn’t their aim, but their goal was to take their fans to church – literally.
