The Stooges is the debut studio album by American rock band The Stooges. It was released on August 5, 1969, by Elektra Records. Two songs, "I Wanna Be Your Dog" and "1969", were released as singles and the album peaked at number 106 on the Billboard album chart. 1969" was featured on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Songs at It is considered a landmark proto-punk album. A typical Stooges song of the period would involve two minutes of composed song followed by several minutes of improvisation. Having assumed that the five songs as normally performed would cover requirements for the album, the Stooges were told by their record label

It may be better than ‘The Weirdness’, but it’s still nowhere near as exciting as it could or even should be, and it certainly doesn’t sound like The Stooges at their best In fact, it more often sounds like Iggy and Williamson’s tame late-’70s collaborations or Iggy’s patchy 2012 country and chanson album ‘Après. It’s a shame that this isn’t an Iggy Pop record, because it would have been his best solo album in years. But the record sleeve doesn’t say ‘Iggy Pop’, or even ‘Iggy Pop & James Williamson’ – it says ‘Iggy And The Stooges’

The Stooges, also known as Iggy and the Stooges, were an American rock band formed in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1967 by singer Iggy Pop, guitarist Ron Asheton, drummer Scott Asheton, and bassist Dave Alexander. Playing a raw, primitive style of rock and roll, the band sold few records in their original incarnation and gained a reputation for their confrontational performances, which often involved acts of self-mutilation by Iggy Pop.

With Ready To Die, Iggy And The Stooges have begun to spring back to life. Or at least shown signs of becoming convincingly zombified. The album's first 8 tracks (especially the horrific "DD's") are inexcusably dull and almost unlistenable. The album is rescued from total waste by the final two tracks, which are still sub-par, but a welcome escape from the 27 minutes of buggery that came before them. Or consider a donation?
